Ukraine is now involved in a full-fledged ugly war with Russia. But it doesn’t mean we have to become ugly as well. Ukrainians can find beauty and romance in everything, even in a war. Life goes on, love goes on, couples continue to get married and give birth to babies. In this post, we’d like to show you the reality of Ukrainian wedding fashion 2022. We consciously choose these wedding looks or sometimes don’t have a lot of a choice. Let’s see how Ukrainian brides and grooms look at their military weddings 2022.
Basically, there are two types of couples who celebrate their wedding in Ukraine during the Russian-Ukrainian war – pairs where both the bride and the groom are military or somehow involved in fighting for their country and couples where one of them is military and the other civilian (usually, women are civilian but not always). In the latter cases, their wedding outfits are more usual and familiar to us – the bride wears a white wedding dress and the groom is dressed in a military uniform. But what if both honeys are in the army and wear military uniforms on a daily basis? What if a classic wedding dress can’t be delivered to the bride because she’s on the forefront of the battle? What kind of a bridal attire, makeup, and wedding look in general do we see on Ukrainian battlefield?
Ukrainians are beautiful, no matter what they’re wearing, especially when they’re in love. But Ukrainian men in military uniforms and women in military uniforms look magnificent. Just look into these spiritual faces and fearless eyes, and you’ll get it. It turned out that a bride in a military uniform, without any makeup and hairdo, with only a small wedding veil and a bridal bouquet in her hand appears more beautiful, feminine, and inspired than a lot of ladies in their fancy wedding dresses and with thousands-dollar-worth makeup.
Some Ukrainian brides don’t even bother with a veil, a light makeup, or wedding rings. But practically always you’ll see a neat wedding bouquet of fresh flowers in her hands. This romantic symbol of love and life helps the couples feel special on this day. Even when you’re wearing a warm coat and a hat to your wedding, a simple bouquet of fresh flowers can add such a romantic vibe.

The same couple used their protective helmets as wedding crowns during the religious wedding ceremony. Usually, Slavic couples use special crowns provided by the church for this important Christian ceremony. But in the time of war, tactical helmets can perform this function just as well.

Another charming Ukrainian couple had it all)). She wore a white veil with her military uniform, did her hair, and had a wedding bouquet, while he wore a bulletproof vest and a protective helmet. A military chaplain served as their wedding officiant and their fellow combatants as witnesses. They even had a wedding cake. This pair can be sure that their wedding photos will be among the most unique not only in their country but probably in the whole world.

In Ukraine, it’s rather typical to wear traditional clothing to a wedding, especially the local embroidered outfits are popular among brides. And during the war time, this trend became even more pronounced. Often, you can see couples getting married in traditional embroidered shirts or the bride wears a national attire and the groom a military uniform. Such a wedding apparel demonstrates the actual situation in Ukraine perfectly because Ukrainians are fighting for their culture, their freedom, and their right for existence.

In Kharkiv, the city that severely suffers from Russian bombing, two combat medics got married in a subway shelter. A normal wedding wasn’t an option for them because their city is under multiple attacks almost every day. But as you see from the photos, they didn’t get too upset. Even with the bride being completely bold (she worked in an oncology center before the war), she looks pretty and happy. She wears a traditional Ukrainian bridal headdress – a wreath made from fresh flowers and leaves – with a modern white veil. And her attire isn’t fancy or expensive – in her conditions, it should only be warm and comfy so that she could save lives asap if she’s needs.

So many brides around the world stress over their wedding prep or a wedding dress that isn’t absolutely perfect. They can’t eat, can’t sleep, and fight with their loved ones and family over such unimportant things. All the while, brides in Ukraine today are content with just being alive and able to marry their beloved men, even without a nice wedding dress, stunning heels, professional makeup, and costly wedding jewelry. The wedding looks you’ve seen above are trendy today in Ukraine because of the circumstances. But these brave women teach us that a happy bride is always beautiful, no matter what she’s wearing and whether she has any makeup on. We should appreciate what we have and find the positive in every day of our life that we spend together with people we love.
