A huge wedding ceremony, hundreds of respectable guests, a 2-meter high wedding cake, gold decorations everywhere, and, of course, a real prince waiting for you at the altar. Well, those ten women below had all that and more. So, let’s at least look at their weddings – particularly, at their wedding cakes – and gossip. Who’s got the biggest cake, most intricate, most expensive, etc. Some of these brides even had to cut their wedding cake with a sword, rather than a knife.


Princess Diana and Prince Charles

Made by: chef David Avery of the Royal Naval Cookery School.

Height: 5 ft (1.5 m).

Decorations: Prince and his family’s royal coat of arms, the couple’s first initials and a spray of roses, lilies of the valley, and orchids.

The Duke of Kent and Princess Marina of Greece

Made by: McVities & Price.

Height: 9 ft (2.7 m).

Decorations: Grecian-style pillars between the tiers in honor of Marina’s nationality.

Prince Pavlos of Greece and Marie-Chantal Miller

Decorations: eight-tiered centerpiece inspired by a China pattern from the Royal Collection.

Princess Mette-Marit and Prince Haakon

Decorations: numerous tiers, frosted and decorated with Viking ships, and it was laden with raisins and rum.

Queen Rania and King Abdullah

Decorations: this enormous multi-tiered, rectangular-shaped cake, was decorated with crowns and lace embellishments. It was sliced down to size with a sword.

Prince Frederik and Princess Mary of Denmark

Height: 6.5 ft (2 m).

Weight: 90 kg.

Decorations: all the layers were covered with a white marzipan and decorated with marzipan roses and the couple’s official monogram in chocolate, and was then topped with cartoon figurines of the couple.

Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel

Made by: Association of Bakers & Confectioners, Switzerland.

Weight: 250 kg.

Decorations: of 11 tiers, each in the shape of a lucky 4-leaf clover.

Princess Grace and Prince Rainier III

Made by: the pastry chefs at Monte-Carlo’s famed Hotel de Paris.

Decorations: upper two tiers featured a built-in cage that held a pair of live turtledoves. The doves were released when the couple cut into the cake with Prince Rainier’s sword.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip

Height: 9 ft (2.7 m).

Weight: 225 kg.

Decorations: made from ingredients received from the Australian Girl Guides. One layer was kept until the christening of Prince Charles and another was sent back to Australia by way of thanks.

Kate Middleton and Prince William

Made by: Fiona Cairns.

Decorations: flowers symbolizing the 4 nations of the United Kingdom: roses for England, thistle for Scotland, daffodils for Wales, and shamrocks for Ireland. There were also other symbolic decorations, like an oak and acorn for endurance. Along the cake’s base ran ivy leaves, symbolizing marriage, and the bottom 3 tiers were decorated with piped lacework and daisies, meaning innocence, sweet William, and lavender. Three tiers of the cake have been saved for the christening of their future children.
