Florist avaMark Frye from American top-notch floral design business “Creative Occasions” gives his advice as to what kind of a bridal bouquet to use this year, what flowers will be the most fashionable for wedding decoration in 2019, and what floral embellishments are in trend right now. Also, he has some recommendations for the couple about budgeting and the best time to make arrangements with a florist for the wedding.

So, let’s hear him out.

Color of 2019

We’ve come through a period of time where everything was in kind of soft, muted tones – cream, ivory, a little bit of burgundy, etc. And this year, we’ll see even more color. The color of this year is coral. So, we’ll see lots of coral – maybe even coral bridesmaids’ dresses. And in wedding bouquets, the addition of coral will make them pop even brighter.

Greenery in wedding decoration

In 2018, the greenery was really big in bridal bouquets and wedding decoration. And this year, it is still the case. Lots of foliage runners on tables, lots of greenery in arrangements. But last year was sort of wild and crazy – it’s a little more tame this year. I’ve had brides who’ve said, “I don’t want to carry the shrub, I want to carry something that’s a little more constructed and constrained”. This year, they’ll have such a chance.

Hot flowers in 2019

The hot flowers being used in 2019 are dahlias, peonies, English garden roses, and such. They still continue to be soft, romantic flowers (which are great for weddings). They have lush blossoms with lots of petals. That’s why they still are the most popular choices.

Seasonal flowers save budget

Important thing for the brides and grooms! Use seasonal flowers. It will be much better for your budget. For instance, the peonies are comparatively cheap during the season when they’re available in this area. Florists can get them at other times of a year, but they’re more expensive because they’re flown from other parts of the country or even the world. It definitely impacts budgeting.

When to meet with a florist?

As a florist, I think that what I do is an important part of the wedding. So, I love to meet with couples early on – 12-18 months ahead. When you have a venue, a color scheme, and the date, you’re ready to see the florist.
