In the Middle Ages, wedding dinner was more of a joint community’s dinner than a reception held by the couple. Of course, if we’re talking about ordinary citizens, because the royal newlyweds could easily afford a large feast for hundreds of wedding guests. But peasant brides and grooms couldn’t feed a lot of people by themselves, so it was a common thing for the wedding guests to bring some food and drinks with them. By the way, people drank special bridal ale, brewed for this particular occasion.
